Fabio Paratici is poised to leave Tottenham Hotspur for Fiorentina once the January transfer window closes, just three months after making his return to the north London club.
Paratici originally stepped away from Spurs in April 2023 after his appeal against a two-and-a-half-year ban was dismissed by Italy’s top sports court. He rejoined the club in October as joint sporting director alongside Johan Lange.
Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham confirmed that Paratici asked to move back to Italy, explaining that both parties agreed he would depart after January. He praised Paratici’s work and stressed that Tottenham’s management structure is strong enough to operate smoothly without disruption.
Paratici, for his part, said the opportunity to join Fiorentina and return home was central to his decision. He expressed appreciation for his time at Spurs, adding that the club remains close to his heart and that he will continue to follow their progress from afar.
Despite outside speculation, Tottenham insist the exit is entirely down to personal reasons rather than internal conflict. It remains uncertain whether the club will name a direct replacement, with Spurs reiterating confidence in their current leadership setup. His departure also comes during a transitional period, with Daniel Levy no longer handling transfers alone and greater involvement across the club’s hierarchy.
Widely liked at Spurs, Paratici was influential in a number of signings. Some proved highly successful, including Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, while others, such as Emerson Royal and Manor Solomon, had a more limited impact. He will still play a role in Tottenham’s January transfer business before officially leaving.
Paratici’s initial exit followed his failed appeal related to alleged false accounting during his time at Juventus, and his return saw him operate with reduced authority. At Fiorentina, however, he is expected to take full charge of football operations.
Overall, Paratici enjoyed mixed results in the transfer market at Spurs and contributed to the club’s Europa League triumph, even if not every move paid off. His final task will be overseeing the crucial January window, including additions like Conor Gallagher, but his short second stint means he departs without firmly cementing a long-term legacy at Tottenham.
