James Maddison will be desperate to put this year behind him at Tottenham.
Unfortunately for the Spurs midfielder, it has been a campaign to forget. Maddison suffered a ruptured ACL during pre-season, an injury that could rule him out for the entire season.
In his absence, Mohammed Kudus has tried to fill the creative void following his move from West Ham, but the Ghana international has since joined the injury list as well.
With attacking options rapidly disappearing, Thomas Frank is under pressure to bring in reinforcements before the 2 February deadline. However, the opening week of the transfer window at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has largely been focused on rearranging loan deals rather than securing new signings.
James Maddison says farewell as Tottenham departure confirmed
There is little doubt that Maddison is a hugely influential figure within the Spurs dressing room. Widely respected and admired, the England international is praised for his attitude and the way he carries himself around the club.
That reputation was on show once again following Yang Min-Hyeok’s latest move. Yang has officially joined Coventry City on loan for the remainder of the season after his initial loan spell at Portsmouth was cut short by mutual agreement.
After Yang completed his switch, Maddison reached out to his former club teammate with a message on Instagram, saying:
“Let’s go, Yang! What a city and what a club — I told you that in pre-season.
Good luck, mate.”
James Maddison’s Coventry City legacy
Tottenham will be eager to welcome Maddison back to action, a sentiment echoed by Yang, who described him as a Coventry City legend.
Maddison began his professional journey at the Coventry Building Society Arena, making 42 appearances before a move to Norwich City truly launched his career.

Coventry City: 10
Norwich City: 29
Leicester City: 96
Tottenham Hotspur: 37
After registering five goals and five assists at Coventry, Maddison went on to establish himself at Leicester City before completing his move to Spurs.
If Yang can even come close to replicating those figures during his career, he would undoubtedly go down as a modern Tottenham icon. For now, his focus will be on helping Coventry City push for promotion to the Premier League.
