Tottenham Hotspur fans ridiculed head coach Thomas Frank after a disappointing first half in their 2-1 FA Cup third-round defeat to Aston Villa.
Spurs trailed 2-0 at halftime, having won only one of their last seven games. Emi Buendia opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, and Morgan Rogers added a second during stoppage time.
Home fans responded with boos to Villa’s second goal, with many leaving early. Villa supporters chanted “Sacked in the morning!” at Frank, and some Spurs fans joined in, creating a tense atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Alan Pardew said Frank needed to inject optimism at halftime and encourage his players to engage more actively, rather than passively standing around.
The second half started brighter for Spurs, with Wilson Odobert scoring to lift the home crowd. Tottenham improved and created opportunities to equalize, but Villa held on to progress to the fourth round. Tempers flared at full-time when both teams clashed, reportedly after Ollie Watkins celebrated in front of Joao Palhinha. Pardew suggested Palhinha’s reaction reflected the pressure at Tottenham, noting tension between him and Morgan Rogers throughout the second half.
Frank now faces scrutiny after another poor result, following a recent 3-2 loss at Bournemouth.
Tottenham have lost four of their last seven matches across all competitions and exit the FA Cup in the third round for the first time since 2014.
