Tim Sherwood believes Thomas Frank’s time as Tottenham manager is set to end following Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.
Cristian Romero equalised in the 64th minute after Crysencio Summerville had given the struggling visitors a first-half lead. Spurs showed improvement after a dreadful opening 45 minutes, but their revival was undone deep into stoppage time when Callum Wilson struck a 93rd-minute winner.
Pressure has been mounting on Frank for weeks, and this latest setback could prove to be the decisive blow. Although he only took charge in the summer, the situation in north London has deteriorated rapidly, with patience wearing thin.
Despite a better second-half showing, too many Tottenham players again failed to perform, leaving Frank with little room for further excuses. The loss to West Ham may be viewed as the lowest point yet in an increasingly bleak campaign.
Speaking on Sky Sports News during the first half, Sherwood suggested that anything other than a victory would likely cost Frank his job. He warned that if Spurs continued to play at that level, defeat – and dismissal – would be inevitable, adding that it would be extremely difficult for Frank to survive without a win.
Attention now turns to whether Tottenham’s hierarchy will act immediately or allow Frank to remain in charge for the upcoming Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund.
Speculation over a potential successor is already intensifying. Oliver Glasner is reportedly the leading candidate, with the German coach set to leave Crystal Palace in the summer. Other names being linked include Mauricio Pochettino, Xabi Alonso, Marco Silva and Enzo Maresca, all of whom are seen by some as stronger options.
For many, the season already feels beyond salvage, with European hopes fading and domestic cup ambitions over. What was meant to be an exciting new era under Frank has instead turned into deep disappointment.
