Liverpool are plotting a £50m move for a new winger who could be a huge hit with fans — and it’s not Yankuba Minteh.

Liverpool are not only considering Yankuba Minteh as they look to strengthen their wide options before the summer transfer window closes, with another Premier League winger now emerging as a potential target.

The Reds have already brought in Victor Munoz this summer but remain keen to add two more wide players before deadline day. Bradley Barcola remains their top priority, with the PSG winger potentially replacing Cody Gakpo on the left should the Netherlands international depart.

Liverpool initially reached an agreement on personal terms with PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye, but their attention has since shifted towards Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh.

The Merseyside club have already seen £50m and £60m offers for Minteh rejected by Brighton. Liverpool must now decide whether to increase their bid and move closer to Brighton’s £70m valuation.

However, an alternative option has now emerged, with Liverpool reportedly showing interest in Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr.

Turkish journalist Nevzat Dindar claims Liverpool could rival Galatasaray for the Senegal international.

“Ismaila Sarr can operate in several attacking positions, which is why Okan Buruk is very keen on bringing him in,” Dindar said, via Galatasaray account Forza Cimbom.

“Galatasaray are extremely serious about signing Sarr, while Crystal Palace are equally determined to keep him.

“However, Sarr wants to leave and was left out of the squad today because of this.

“There are also reports that Liverpool are interested in the Senegalese player.”

A move for Sarr could prove popular among Liverpool supporters, particularly because of his impressive record against the Reds.

Sarr famously played a starring role in Watford’s 3-0 win over Liverpool during the 2019/20 campaign, scoring twice and providing an assist as the Reds’ unbeaten run came to an end.

Sarr has regularly troubled Liverpool

The 28-year-old has enjoyed remarkable success against Liverpool throughout his spells with Watford and Palace, recording seven goals and two assists in 10 appearances against them.

Sarr has consistently been a difficult opponent for Liverpool, meaning bringing him to Anfield could turn a familiar threat into an asset for Iraola.

Crystal Palace are keen to retain the 87-cap Senegal international but could potentially be tempted by an offer in the region of £50m or more.

At present, though, Galatasaray appear to be showing greater interest in securing Sarr’s signature than Liverpool.

Manchester United also held discussions with Sarr’s representatives over a possible move earlier this summer, although their current priorities are Carlos Baleba and a new left-back.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are continuing to work on a major new proposal for their leading target, Bradley Barcola.
