Dimitar Berbatov Hits Out at “Entitled” Tottenham Fans After Brentford Defeat
Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing start to the new Premier League season has already sparked frustration among supporters, and club legend Dimitar Berbatov has now criticised some fans following their heavy defeat to Brentford.
Spurs suffered a 3–0 loss at the Gtech Community Stadium in a performance that left travelling supporters deeply disappointed. However, footage of some Tottenham fans leaving before the final whistle reportedly angered Berbatov, who questioned their decision to walk out while the match was still being played.
The former Bulgarian striker understands why supporters were frustrated but believes abandoning the team before full-time sends the wrong message, especially during a difficult period for the club.
Berbatov reportedly labelled the reaction “entitled and delusional,” insisting that true supporters should remain behind their team during difficult moments rather than only showing their support when things are going well.
Berbatov Questions Early Departures
There was very little for Tottenham fans to celebrate against Brentford. Spurs struggled to impose themselves on the game, while defensive errors allowed the hosts to take control and secure a convincing victory.
With Tottenham trailing and their chances of a comeback fading, some travelling supporters reportedly decided to leave the stadium before the final whistle.
Berbatov was clearly unhappy with that reaction. He believes fans have every right to express their disappointment but should remain until the game has officially ended.
The former Spurs star also suggested that players notice what happens in the stands. Seeing large numbers of supporters leave early can affect the atmosphere and potentially have an impact on players during difficult periods.
Tottenham Fans Divided Over Berbatov’s Comments
Berbatov’s criticism has divided Tottenham supporters.
Some fans have defended those who left early, arguing that they paid to watch the match and are entitled to decide when they want to leave. After travelling to support a team that produced such a poor performance, they believe their frustration was understandable.
Others have backed Berbatov, arguing that supporters should stay with the team until the final whistle regardless of the scoreline. They believe abandoning the stadium early does little to help the players, particularly at the beginning of a new campaign.
Meanwhile, the defeat has increased pressure on Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi. Spurs invested heavily during the summer and entered the new season with renewed expectations, making the poor performance against Brentford even more disappointing.
De Zerbi’s immediate priority will be to address the weaknesses exposed in the defeat and improve the consistency of his squad.
For now, the debate around Tottenham has extended beyond the players and manager, with the behaviour of some supporters also becoming a major talking point.
