Tottenham reportedly open talks for another “monster” winger as Spurs seek more attacking firepower
Tottenham Hotspur’s heavy 3-0 defeat to Brentford has highlighted a major concern for Roberto De Zerbi: the club may still need more firepower in attack despite their busy summer transfer window.
Spurs have invested heavily in rebuilding their squad, but the result showed that new arrivals alone cannot guarantee immediate success. The team still needs time to develop understanding, consistency and chemistry.
The biggest concern against Brentford was arguably Tottenham’s attack. Spurs struggled to create clear chances and lacked the creativity and cutting edge needed in the final third.
Mathys Tel was one of the few players who showed flashes of danger. The 21-year-old completed six dribbles, more than anyone else in the match, but he failed to register a shot on target and had limited influence inside the penalty area.
That performance has reinforced the idea that Tottenham need additional attacking options rather than relying heavily on Tel.
Spurs continue search for attacking reinforcements
After strengthening midfield with Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, Tottenham are now focusing heavily on their forward line.
The club are reportedly progressing towards deals for Manchester City pair Savinho and Omar Marmoush, which would significantly improve De Zerbi’s attacking options.
However, Spurs are understood to be considering even more alternatives.
Cody Gakpo remains a major target, although Liverpool are unlikely to make him available unless they first bring in another attacking player. The Netherlands international recently showed his importance by scoring against Newcastle in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw.
With Gakpo difficult to prise away, Tottenham have reportedly started exploring other possibilities.
Mykhailo Mudryk enters Tottenham’s radar
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has reportedly emerged as another player Spurs are monitoring.
The Ukrainian has endured a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge and has been out of competitive action since October 2024 following his positive test for the banned substance meldonium.
Mudryk returned during Chelsea’s pre-season preparations and is reportedly looking for a loan move during the 2026/27 campaign in an attempt to rebuild his confidence and revive his career.
Leeds United have also reportedly shown interest, while Tottenham have made enquiries about the possibility of bringing him to north London.
A loan deal currently appears more realistic than a permanent transfer, particularly given Mudryk’s circumstances.
For Tottenham, however, the priority remains clear: add another attacker capable of making an immediate impact.
Savinho and Marmoush would provide additional pace and creativity, while Gakpo would bring proven Premier League experience. If Liverpool refuse to sell, Spurs could turn their attention towards alternatives such as Mudryk.
Saturday’s defeat should not necessarily trigger panic at Tottenham, but it has exposed an important weakness. With the transfer deadline approaching, De Zerbi and the club’s recruitment team know that the attack still requires strengthening.
Adding another quality forward could give Spurs a far more balanced squad for the season ahead.
