Confirmed: Tottenham win race against Celtic to sign attacker after Premier League snub

Tottenham Hotspur are said to have finalised the signing of Elisha Sowunmi from West Ham United.
It has been a hectic January transfer window across all levels at the North London club. Spurs have already brought in Conor Gallagher and Souza to bolster Thomas Frank’s senior squad, while Brennan Johnson has departed for Crystal Palace in a £35 million deal.

Tottenham have also added young Irish striker Mason Melia to their academy setup, while loan moves have been arranged for Kota Takai, Manor Solomon, Jamie Donley, Yang Min-hyeok, Oliver Irow, Damola Ajayi and Yusuf Akhamrich.
And the club’s business appears far from over, particularly at youth level.

Tottenham snap up Elisha Sowunmi after West Ham contract rejection
According to Spurs insider Lilywhite Rose on Instagram, 18-year-old forward Sowunmi has completed a switch from East London to North London. Tottenham reportedly moved quickly to secure his signature after he turned down a new contract offer from West Ham.

Sowunmi had been part of the Hammers’ academy since the Under-9s, but will now look to impress with either Tottenham’s Under-18s or Under-21s sides. Football Insider reports that Celtic were also interested in the teenager, but Spurs won the race by offering him the chance to remain closer to home.

Sowunmi bids farewell to West Ham
On Thursday, Sowunmi posted an emotional farewell message on Instagram, marking the end of his long spell at West Ham. The winger, who lifted the Under-18s Premier League Cup with the club last season, shared a childhood photo featuring himself alongside Winston Reid and Reece Oxford.

He wrote: “After 10 years, it’s time to say goodbye. Grateful for every moment, every lesson, every teammate. Thank you, West Ham.”
West Ham’s official website describes Sowunmi as a “versatile attacker” capable of playing on either wing or in the No.10 role. He signed his first professional contract with the club in June 2025 as he prepared to step up to the Under-21s.
However, it now looks like Tottenham will be the club tasked with nurturing the promising young talent going forward. ⚪️🔥
