Gaston Edul makes a bold revelation, claiming Cristian Romero is poised to leave Tottenham in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are bracing for the likely departure of defensive talisman Cristian Romero when the summer transfer window opens in June, according to well-connected Argentine journalist Gaston Edul.

Writing on X, Edul revealed that the 27-year-old World Cup winner is already the subject of strong interest from leading clubs in La Liga, as well as at least one other top European league.

Romero’s possible exit comes at a strained moment between the player and the club. Spurs recently showed resilience by coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Manchester City, despite an ongoing injury crisis that forced them to name a heavily depleted squad.

Following the closure of the transfer window, the Tottenham captain appeared to take aim at the club’s hierarchy, criticising the lack of reinforcements and branding the squad’s thin depth as “unbelievable but true” and “disgraceful.”

With only 11 senior players available for the City clash, Romero’s comments underline a growing sense of frustration with the club’s direction under Thomas Frank.

Real Madrid interest remains strong

Romero has previously voiced concerns over Tottenham’s leadership, questioning their ambition and accountability. His recent outburst has only fuelled rumours of a summer move, with Real Madrid long-term admirers of the centre-back. Reports suggest the Spanish giants are prepared to make a substantial offer.

Van de Ven also on rival radars

Spurs’ defensive worries may not end there. Romero’s centre-back partner, Micky van de Ven, is also attracting attention, with Liverpool said to be weighing up a move as Arne Slot looks to bolster his back line.

Losing both first-choice central defenders in the same transfer window would represent a major blow for Tottenham as they try to steady themselves ahead of a demanding 2026 campaign.
