Arsenal F.C. are believed to be leading the chase to sign Leon Goretzka ahead of Tottenham Hotspur F.C., according to sources.
The Germany international is expected to leave FC Bayern Munich on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer, attracting strong interest from several Premier League clubs. Arsenal and Spurs are currently viewed as the frontrunners for the 31-year-old, with Mikel Arteta’s side thought to have the advantage due to their likely qualification for Champions League football.
Atlético Madrid are also monitoring the situation, as Goretzka looks to continue competing at the highest level in the next stage of his career.
Former Aston Villa and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has claimed there are agent “whispers” suggesting Arsenal are making the strongest push for the midfielder. After eight seasons at Bayern’s Allianz Arena, the former Schalke star appears ready for a fresh challenge, with the Premier League seen as an attractive destination.
There are also suggestions Goretzka would welcome a move to London, boosting hopes for both North London rivals. While Arsenal can offer Champions League football — a competition Goretzka has already won with Bayern — Spurs could potentially provide him with more guaranteed playing time.
Given his availability on a free transfer, more clubs could yet enter the race in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has previously expressed his admiration for Goretzka, urging the club to sign him. Speaking on his Wrighty’s House podcast in 2023, Wright encouraged Arteta to “go and get him,” insisting the Emirates project would strongly appeal to the German star.
Although a move did not materialise then, this summer could present a fresh opportunity. Goretzka remains an important figure for Bayern under Vincent Kompany, underlining his continued status as a top-level performer.
