Alexis Mac Allister has backed new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola despite the Reds’ slow start to the Premier League season.
Liverpool were held to a 2–2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield, meaning Iraola is still searching for his first Premier League victory after two consecutive draws.
Despite the disappointing results, Mac Allister remains highly impressed by Iraola and believes the Spaniard is “truly outstanding.” The midfielder’s comments underline the players’ confidence in the new manager and his methods.
Iraola has been trying to introduce a more aggressive, high-intensity style at Liverpool, but the team has struggled with slow starts and a lack of intensity without the ball. The manager himself admitted that Liverpool improved considerably after half-time against Forest but said the first-half performance ultimately cost them the win.
Mac Allister’s backing comes at an important time, with Liverpool still adapting to Iraola’s system. The late equaliser from new signing Victor Muñoz rescued another point, but the Reds need to start turning their improved performances into victories.
In short: Mac Allister believes Iraola has what it takes to succeed at Liverpool, even though the results have not yet matched the expectations.
