Patrick Vieira has said he fully understands why Tottenham have found themselves in such a difficult position.
For a club of Spurs’ size and financial power, being pulled into a relegation battle is almost unthinkable. Over the last two decades, the North London side have regularly challenged around the top six, which makes their current situation even more concerning.
Tottenham are now facing the genuine possibility of dropping into the second tier for the first time in nearly half a century. Some observers have warned that the club is drifting towards a serious crisis, and Vieira believes the reasons are clear.
The former Premier League boss argues that the core issue lies in a lack of strong leadership and long-term vision. Despite being among the world’s wealthiest clubs and spending heavily in recent years, Spurs have failed to pair that investment with a clear footballing structure or consistent strategy.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Vieira described it as disappointing to see a historic London club in this position. He stressed that while Tottenham possess quality players and significant resources, success cannot be achieved without proper direction, adding that the club’s long-term plan remains unclear.
Since Mauricio Pochettino departed in 2019, Spurs have repeatedly tried to reset, frequently changing managers with very different styles. That trend may continue after the sacking of Thomas Frank just eight months into his tenure.
Another major squad revamp is reportedly being planned — yet another “rebuild” that supporters have heard before and may now be growing tired of.
