Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shifted their attention to AC Milan star Christian Pulisic as they continue their search for attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Spurs had been strongly interested in signing Cody Gakpo and were prepared to spend more than £70 million on the Liverpool winger. However, Gakpo has reportedly changed his mind about a move to north London and would now prefer to join Manchester City if Liverpool agree to sell him.
Following that setback, Tottenham have stepped up their search for alternative targets, with Pulisic emerging as one of the players the club have reportedly made enquiries about.
The American international is still believed to be part of AC Milan’s long-term plans, despite starting the new season on the bench in their opening two matches. His limited involvement is reportedly linked to the management of his fitness following a leg microfracture suffered during the World Cup, rather than any intention from Milan to sell him.
However, Milan are also close to bringing in Nottingham Forest winger Omari Hutchinson on loan, which could increase competition in their attacking department. This has reportedly encouraged several clubs to enquire about Pulisic’s availability, with Tottenham among those showing interest.
The 27-year-old could be an attractive option for Spurs because of his ability to play in several attacking positions. He also brings Premier League experience from his time at Chelsea, while his record of 55 combined goals and assists in 100 Serie A appearances for Milan highlights his attacking contribution.
Although signing Pulisic would likely require a significant financial package, Tottenham’s willingness to spend over £70 million on Gakpo suggests they have the funds available to pursue another major attacking signing.
Pulisic is not the only player on Tottenham’s shortlist. Spurs have also reportedly asked about Lyon winger Malick Fofana, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Lille forward Matheus Fernandez-Pardo.
Fofana has attracted interest from other clubs, including Hull City and Sunderland, while Bahoya is also reportedly being pursued by Hull. Fernandez-Pardo, meanwhile, has emerged as a target for Newcastle United, with Arsenal and Liverpool also said to have made enquiries about the Lille attacker.
Tottenham are therefore considering several alternatives as they look to recover from missing out on Gakpo. With the transfer deadline approaching, Spurs remain determined to add more quality to their attack, and Pulisic is among the names currently being considered as they work through their options.
