Manchester City have reportedly gazumped Tottenham for Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye. Standard Sport report that City struck an agreement with Everton worth up to £65m, coming just a day after Spurs had been given the green light to discuss personal terms with the player.
The timing is particularly frustrating for Tottenham, who believed they were in pole position after securing permission to speak to Ndiaye directly. City’s late intervention has completely changed the picture, with Ndiaye now due to have his medical with the champions on Tuesday as they push to get the deal over the line before the window shuts.
City’s move for Ndiaye only came about after their attempt to sign Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo collapsed. That deal, reportedly worth £85m, fell apart on Monday, sending Guardiola’s side scrambling for alternatives at short notice — and Ndiaye emerged as the solution.
The development leaves Tottenham needing to find another option on the left side of attack having missed out on their target. They’re said to have already opened talks with Chelsea over a possible loan for Mykhailo Mudryk as they look to salvage their deadline-day business.
City, meanwhile, aren’t stopping at Ndiaye. The club are also pushing to add to their midfield before the window shuts, with a deadline-day move for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez reportedly on the cards as they look to strengthen multiple areas of the squad in the closing hours of the window.
