Ismaila Sarr’s Agent Speaks Out After Failed Liverpool Transfer
Ismaila Sarr’s proposed move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool collapsed during the final stages of the summer transfer window, prompting a strong reaction from the Senegalese winger’s agent, Diomansy Kamara.
Liverpool were keen to strengthen their attacking options before the deadline and identified Sarr as one of their possible targets. The Reds had previously explored moves for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, while also completing the major signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool’s interest in Sarr intensified as uncertainty surrounded Cody Gakpo, who was attracting serious interest from Manchester City. The Reds considered Sarr as a potential replacement if Gakpo were to leave Anfield.
Reports indicated that Liverpool made an offer for Sarr, with figures around £40 million initially reported and a potential £50 million proposal also discussed. However, Crystal Palace refused to sanction the Senegal international’s departure, particularly so late in the transfer window. Palace valued the player highly and remained determined to keep him.
Sarr was reportedly keen on making the switch to Liverpool and wanted the move to happen. However, Palace’s stance ultimately prevented the transfer from being completed, leaving the 28-year-old at Selhurst Park.
Following the failed transfer, Sarr’s agent, former Premier League player Diomansy Kamara, released a strongly worded statement. His comments were not only about Sarr but also referenced another failed transfer involving one of his clients, Lamine Camara.
Lamine Camara had been on the verge of joining Chelsea from Monaco in a deal worth around £47 million, but the French club pulled out of the agreement at the last minute.
Kamara argued that the situations involving both players should raise questions about how African footballers are treated during transfer negotiations.
He stressed that African players should not be treated simply as commodities whose prices and futures are determined entirely by clubs. According to the agent, players deserve to have their careers, ambitions and personal wishes properly considered when important transfer decisions are being made.
Kamara also emphasized that transfers involve more than negotiations between clubs and financial figures. Behind every deal is a footballer with personal ambitions, career plans and decisions about his future.
While acknowledging that clubs ultimately have significant power in professional football, the agent questioned whether enough importance is given to the player’s own wishes.
Sarr’s failed Liverpool move was therefore another frustrating chapter in a summer filled with uncertainty over his future. Manchester United and Galatasaray had also shown interest in the winger, but neither club managed to secure his signature.
Liverpool ultimately remained with their existing attacking options after keeping Gakpo and completing the expensive acquisition of Barcola. However, the failure to sign another winger means the Reds ended the window without a direct replacement for Mohamed Salah, who had departed at the end of the previous season.
For Sarr, the immediate outcome is that he remains a Crystal Palace player, despite his reported desire to leave and the late interest from Liverpool.
