Xabi Alonso reportedly wants three new signings before agreeing to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool FC.

Reports from Spain claim that Xabi Alonso would only consider taking over at Liverpool FC if he’s guaranteed three key signings.

Current boss Arne Slot is facing mounting pressure after Liverpool were booed off following a disappointing home draw against Tottenham Hotspur. Despite winning the Premier League in his debut season, Slot has yet to sign a new deal and will enter the next campaign with less than a year left on his contract.

Alonso, who has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid, remains a strong candidate. The former Bayern Munich midfielder was previously linked with the job after Jurgen Klopp stepped down, and interest in him reportedly still exists.

However, Alonso wants full confidence in Liverpool’s project and is said to be demanding reinforcements in key areas. In defence, with uncertainty around Ibrahima Konate and an ageing Virgil van Dijk, he is believed to favour Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan as a long-term option. In midfield, Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace is reportedly seen as an ideal partner for Ryan Gravenberch, especially with Alexis Mac Allister not hitting last season’s levels.

Up front, Alonso is said to be targeting Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain, as concerns grow over the form of Mohamed Salah and inconsistency from Cody Gakpo following Luis Diaz’s exit.

If those three signings are secured, Alonso would reportedly be ready to take charge at Anfield. However, after heavy spending on Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, it’s unclear whether Fenway Sports Group would sanction another big spending window—especially if Champions League qualification is missed.

For now, Liverpool’s hierarchy must decide whether to continue backing Slot or turn to Alonso as their next manager.
