Liverpool Could Target Lamine Camara in 2027 as James Pearce Provides Intriguing Update
Liverpool could reportedly reignite their interest in Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara in 2027 after his proposed move to Chelsea fell through during the summer transfer window.
According to Liverpool insider James Pearce of The Athletic, however, a future transfer is far from certain. Camara was previously viewed as one of the strongest candidates to replace Alexis Mac Allister if the Argentine midfielder had left Anfield this summer.
Mac Allister’s Liverpool Future Could Be Decided Next Summer
Mac Allister currently finds himself in an interesting position at Liverpool. His disappointing 2025/26 season saw his transfer value drop significantly, with the club also struggling to find consistency in midfield.
His performances at the World Cup alongside Enzo Fernandez and Lionel Messi, though, helped restore much of his reputation and market value.
Despite previously being linked with a move to Real Madrid, no serious offers arrived for the 27-year-old during the summer.
With new manager Andoni Iraola now in charge, Mac Allister has another opportunity to prove himself and establish his importance to the team. Nevertheless, there is no certainty that he will remain at Anfield beyond the 2026/27 season.
His current contract runs until 2028, meaning next summer could represent Liverpool’s last realistic opportunity to receive a significant transfer fee if no renewal is agreed.
Could Camara Be His Replacement?
Liverpool have no immediate desire to sell Mac Allister, but the club could eventually look toward Camara if the Argentine departs.
One issue Liverpool may need to address is the lack of midfielders who naturally provide defensive protection. If Iraola continues with a midfield structure where one player holds position while another pushes forward, questions could arise over whether Mac Allister is the ideal option as the deepest midfielder.
Liverpool are also unlikely to sell either Ryan Gravenberch or Dominik Szoboszlai, both of whom have committed their futures to the club with long-term contracts.
That could leave Mac Allister as the most realistic major midfield departure next summer.
If that scenario unfolds, Camara could emerge as one of Liverpool’s leading targets in 2027.
For now, there is no guarantee that the Senegal international will arrive at Anfield, but Liverpool are expected to continue monitoring his development as they consider their long-term midfield plans.
