Mohammed Kudus’ Impact at Tottenham Highlighted Despite Injury Absence
Mohammed Kudus made history last summer by becoming the first player in 14 years to transfer directly from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur. He quickly settled into life at Spurs, delivering an impressive start to his debut season.
However, his momentum slowed during the winter months, mirroring the struggles of the wider squad, before the 25-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in January.
Kudus has now been out of action for around three months, and Tottenham’s noticeable drop in performance during that period has underlined just how important he is to the team.
Stats Emphasize Kudus’ Value
Despite missing significant time, the former West Ham winger still ranks among Tottenham’s most productive attacking players this Premier League campaign.
According to performance data from FotMob, Kudus leads the team in assists with five and sits second behind Richarlison in total goal contributions, registering seven.
He also holds the third-highest average rating at the club (6.99), trailing only captain Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur, highlighting his reliability whenever he is available.
Creatively, Kudus has generated 23 scoring opportunities—third most in the squad—behind Pedro Porro with 37 and Xavi Simons with 30.
He has also proven to be one of Spurs’ most threatening dribblers, averaging three successful take-ons every 90 minutes, matching the numbers of Mathys Tel. In addition, he regains possession 0.7 times per match in the attacking third, with only Xavi Simons recording a better figure.
Most notably, Kudus has completed 22 more dribbles than any other Tottenham player this season, despite spending months sidelined through injury—further demonstrating his influence on the team.
Possible Return Boost for Tottenham
Manager Roberto De Zerbi could soon receive a major lift with Kudus nearing a return to action. Reports indicate that De Zerbi has admired the winger for a long time and previously tried to sign him.
Kudus remains doubtful for Tottenham’s upcoming match against Sunderland A.F.C., as he has not been spotted in recent training sessions. However, there is growing optimism that he could make his comeback in the fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. on April 18.
