Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has given a stark verdict on Richarlison, confirming the Brazilian striker won’t be picked for matches regardless of his availability.
Richarlison fell out of De Zerbi’s plans after a summer move away from the club didn’t materialize. He was subsequently omitted from Spurs’ Premier League squad list once talks with interested clubs broke down, meaning an extended spell out of the side.
Some had hoped he might still get minutes in the Carabao Cup, where the usual squad-registration limits don’t apply. De Zerbi has ruled that out too, stating plainly that Richarlison won’t feature “even in the Carabao Cup.”
This is a tough setback for the 29-year-old, who wanted to stay involved with the first team despite the unclear situation over his future. A planned return to Everton fell apart on deadline day when the two clubs couldn’t finalize terms, and no other move came together either — leaving his Tottenham career in limbo.
The manager’s stance suggests he’s already planning without Richarlison as he reshapes the squad. That’s a notable call given Spurs’ early-season struggles to score, which might otherwise have made the experienced forward a tempting option off the bench.
Barring a change in circumstances, Richarlison likely won’t get a genuine chance to play for Tottenham again until January — a steep comedown for a player once seen as a key part of the attack.
