WISSA £55M RISK: Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a surprise summer bid for Yoane Wissa despite him managing just one goal this season — and supporters are split over the idea. It’s a high-stakes move that raises serious questions about what Roberto De Zerbi is planning behind the scenes. Could this turn out to be a hidden gem ready to shine, or a costly gamble that backfires on Spurs?
Tottenham Hotspur are already planning for the upcoming transfer window, with new reports linking them to a Premier League forward they previously tried to sign, as their injury crisis continues to take its toll.
Injuries have been a recurring issue for Spurs throughout the season, and the situation worsened even after their recent win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke are the latest casualties, with both now ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. Simons suffered a serious ACL injury and is not expected back until next year, while Solanke is dealing with a grade-two hamstring problem that will also keep him sidelined.
With the season nearing its conclusion and the summer window approaching, Spurs are expected to be active in the market regardless of which division they find themselves in. Strengthening attacking and wide areas is believed to be a priority.
According to fresh reports, Tottenham have renewed their interest in Yoane Wissa, who has struggled for minutes this season, featuring sparingly. The forward had previously impressed during his time at Brentford, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists, which initially put him on Spurs’ radar.
However, Tottenham missed out on him last summer, with Wissa instead joining Newcastle United in a £55 million deal. His time on Tyneside has been challenging, largely due to injuries, limiting him to just one league goal so far.
Despite that, Spurs could now revisit the deal at a significantly reduced fee. Newcastle are reportedly open to offers and may accept a substantial loss, with the striker potentially available for around half of what they originally paid. However, Tottenham are not alone in their interest, with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa also monitoring the situation.
There is also interest from clubs outside England, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where a move has been described as a realistic option if he does not remain in the Premier League. As for Wissa, he is said to be open to a fresh start in search of regular playing time after a frustrating spell at Newcastle.
