Unai Emery has confirmed that Amadou Onana is a significant doubt for Aston Villa’s upcoming clash with Tottenham Hotspur after sustaining another injury in the loss to Nottingham Forest.
The Belgian midfielder was forced off in the 55th minute due to a calf problem that had already been bothering him before the break, with Lamare Bogarde coming on as his replacement at the City Ground.
Onana had only just returned from a minor knee issue that ruled him out of Villa’s previous defeat to Fulham, and Emery admitted the club will assess him carefully ahead of Sunday’s fixture at Villa Park.
After the 1-0 loss, Emery explained that the midfielder had alerted medical staff during the first half about discomfort in his calf. He added that while the timeline for recovery remains uncertain, there is hope for improvement in the coming days, though caution will be exercised before any final decision is made.
Meanwhile, Tottenham kept their survival hopes alive with a vital 1-0 win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, ending a 16-game wait for a Premier League victory.
Despite the boost, Spurs continue to deal with a growing injury list, with Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke among those currently unavailable.
Goalkeeper Antonín Kinský remains confident the team can avoid relegation and close the gap to 17th-placed West Ham United.
Kinský stressed that the squad is fully committed to the fight for survival, with strong backing from fans and everyone associated with the club. He acknowledged their current position is self-inflicted but believes they are making the right progress and possess the quality needed to stay up.
Following the victory over Wolves, João Palhinha described Tottenham’s remaining fixtures as “four finals,” emphasizing the need to build on their momentum after such a long winless run.
He added that the team must stay focused on their task through to the end of the season, vowing that the players will give everything to ensure the club retains its Premier League status.
