Real Madrid have held internal discussions about signing Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, though completing such a transfer is expected to be extremely difficult.
Los Blancos famously secured Gareth Bale and Luka Modrić from Spurs in previous years, and the Spanish giants are now eyeing another standout performer from the North London side.
Multiple reports in recent months suggest that Van de Ven has become Madrid’s leading centre-back target. The Dutchman is also attracting interest from PSG and Liverpool as his reputation grows as one of the Premier League’s top defenders.
Tottenham unwilling to entertain a sale
Journalist Dean Jones has confirmed that the 24-year-old is among the defenders being assessed at the Bernabéu as part of their defensive rebuild. However, he stressed that a move for Van de Ven would be far more challenging than Madrid’s pursuit of other targets, largely due to Tottenham’s firm stance.
Speaking to TEAMtalk, Jones said:
“Van de Ven’s name has come up alongside players like Ibrahima Konaté, Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guéhi, but the situation is completely different. Those three are approaching free agency—an area Madrid are eager to take advantage of.”
He added that Van de Ven’s situation is more complicated because he still has over three years left on his contract, and Spurs are pushing to extend it on improved terms.
“Of course, Madrid have the pulling power to sway any player, but the fee would need to be huge. Spurs have zero desire to lose him. They value his leadership and experience massively, and beyond being a top defender, he also offers a goal threat.”
Tottenham prioritising a new contract
Recent reports indicate that Tottenham’s immediate focus is securing a long-term extension for Van de Ven. He is currently on a relatively modest salary, and the club are prepared to place him among their top earners.
However, Spurs may need strong performances on the pitch this season to convince the former Wolfsburg man that his ambitions can be realised in North London.
