Gerrard Tips Williams-Barnett for the Top After Palace Cameo
Steven Gerrard has revealed he is already convinced that Luca Williams-Barnett has the quality to reach the very top of the game, after watching the youngster’s brief appearance against Crystal Palace.
The former Liverpool captain said one moment from the match stood out to him above everything else: Williams-Barnett’s late cameo off the bench. Gerrard admitted the teenager’s name had come up in conversations with him several times through the England youth ranks, so he was already aware of the hype before seeing him in action.
Ten minutes was all it took to leave an impression. Gerrard pointed to a jinking run down the left flank that ended with a cross into the box, and said it was enough to convince him that the youngster is going to make it as a player.
The Liverpool legend then drew a comparison with Rio Ngumoha, saying the club now have another exciting young talent of their own. Gerrard urged fans to keep an eye on Williams-Barnett, adding that he really likes what he sees.
