Liverpool Defender’s Loan Move
The agent of Liverpool youngster Ifeanyi Ndukwe has revealed that talks are already underway with several clubs regarding a potential loan move for the 18-year-old during the 2026/27 campaign.
Ndukwe has emerged as one of Liverpool’s standout performers during pre-season, impressing throughout the club’s recent tour of the United States before producing another eye-catching display against Monaco at Anfield last weekend. His performances have also attracted plenty of praise from respected journalists, including James Pearce.
However, the teenager is unable to remain with Andoni Iraola’s first-team squad for the foreseeable future because he does not currently qualify for a UK work permit. As a result, Liverpool are expected to send him abroad on loan, where he can gain valuable senior experience and regular playing time.
Ndukwe attracting interest from several clubs
Ndukwe’s representative, Georg Lederer, has confirmed that discussions are taking place with a number of clubs outside England.
Speaking to Tipsbladet, Lederer said: “I can’t say which clubs we are in dialogue with, but I can confirm that we are in dialogue with Danish clubs about Ifeanyi Ndukwe. The only thing I can say is that it is not [all] about the top clubs in Denmark.
“We are also talking to several foreign clubs, but right now we have to decide in collaboration with Liverpool where Ifeanyi will fit best.
“We are looking at several different parameters. First and foremost, it is about Ifeanyi getting a lot of playing time, and then Liverpool is also looking at what type of football clubs play, as they want him to play in a high-pressing defence, so it is a bit like what you see in Liverpool.”
Fabrizio Romano also reported on Tuesday via X that Ndukwe is expected to leave Liverpool on loan “from next week”, with Portuguese clubs already having submitted offers for the defender.
Regular football is crucial for Ndukwe
Although Liverpool supporters may be disappointed that Ndukwe won’t be available as defensive cover this season, a temporary move appears to be the best option for his development.
The arrival of Ronald Araujo, alongside Jeremy Jacquet’s expected return from injury, would make regular first-team opportunities difficult to come by at Anfield. A carefully selected loan spell in Europe could therefore provide Ndukwe with the consistent senior football he needs.
Liverpool will also want the youngster to develop in a system that suits their style, particularly one built around an aggressive, high-pressing defensive approach.
The Athletic has reported that Ndukwe is considering strong offers from clubs across Europe, highlighting just how much interest his impressive pre-season displays have generated.
Lederer’s comments suggest that Liverpool and the player will take their time before deciding on the right destination. The priority will be finding a club where Ndukwe can play regularly, develop tactically and compete at a high level.
Whoever eventually secures the Austrian defender’s signature will be getting one of Liverpool’s promising young talents. If his recent performances are anything to go by, Ndukwe has enormous potential — and the right loan move could play a major role in unlocking it.
