Robertson Set for Tottenham Switch as Spurs Move Fast on Multiple Fronts

Andy Robertson is poised to begin a new chapter at Tottenham Hotspur on July 1, with the Scottish left-back set to arrive on a free transfer after his Liverpool contract expires at the end of June.

The experienced defender received a heartfelt send-off from the Anfield faithful following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on the final day of the Premier League season, drawing the curtain on a hugely successful period at the club.

For Tottenham, who escaped relegation by the slimmest of margins — just two points — there is no time to waste. Roberto De Zerbi is moving quickly to reshape his squad and ensure Spurs are a far more formidable outfit next season.

Robertson is expected to be the first of several new faces in North London. Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi, whose contract is also winding down, is understood to be closing in on a move to Spurs and could be formally announced in the near future.

Tottenham are additionally pursuing Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, with talks between the two clubs already underway. However, an opening bid from Spurs is said to have been rejected. Manchester City winger Savinho also remains on De Zerbi’s radar — the Brazilian was a target last summer before Pep Guardiola chose to retain him at the Etihad.

Robertson departs Liverpool as one of the club’s most celebrated modern servants. Since joining from Hull City in 2017, he was a central figure in a trophy-laden era that included two Premier League titles, two Champions League triumphs, and a host of other honours. The Scotland captain had been linked with Atletico Madrid last summer, though that move never materialised.

Following confirmation of the signing, De Zerbi made no secret of his admiration for the veteran full-back.

“Andy is a player I have admired for many years,” the Spurs manager said. “He brings exceptional quality, vast experience, leadership, and a winning mentality. He has consistently performed at the highest level and will be a major asset for us both on and off the pitch. I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing the positive influence he can have throughout the squad.”

The pursuit of Van Hecke continues in parallel. The Dutch centre-back, who has just twelve months remaining on his Brighton deal, previously worked under De Zerbi during the Italian’s time on the south coast. Brighton originally signed him from NAC Breda in 2020 for an initial £1.8 million, and he has since grown into one of their most dependable defensive figures.
