Alasdair Gold explains Tottenham’s stance on Folarin Balogun
Tottenham’s plans for the summer transfer window have been thrown into uncertainty following Eli Junior Kroupi’s injury. Spurs were reportedly just 24 hours away from launching a major offer for the Bournemouth striker when the setback emerged.
As a result, Tottenham have been forced to consider alternative options, although it remains unclear whether Roberto De Zerbi’s side will ultimately bring in another centre-forward or who their preferred target might be.
According to reports from The Sun, Monaco striker Folarin Balogun has been offered to Tottenham at a reduced price, making the former Arsenal forward an appealing option for the North London club.
Gold gives his verdict on Balogun links
There have even been claims that Balogun has become a priority target for Spurs following his impressive World Cup campaign.
The USA international scored three times during the tournament, and Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has now addressed the speculation surrounding a potential move to Tottenham.
Gold explained that Spurs were not interested in Balogun when links to the striker first emerged during the World Cup. However, he admitted that their stance could change before the transfer window closes.
He said: “Whether that changes as the window goes on might depend on whether the club’s first choice targets up front remain unattainable.”
Richarlison could influence Spurs’ striker decision
Tottenham’s decision over whether to sign another number nine could also be influenced by Richarlison’s future.
During Spurs’ pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand, De Zerbi hinted that the Brazilian forward was uncertain about his future at the club.
Should Richarlison decide to leave, Tottenham would likely need to find a replacement. De Zerbi may be reluctant to begin the season relying solely on Dominic Solanke, particularly given the striker’s injury record.
For now, Balogun does not appear to be Tottenham’s first-choice option, but that could change if their preferred attacking targets prove impossible to land.
