Tottenham Hotspur have sent shockwaves through the Premier League with a summer spending spree that has already broken the club’s transfer record. After landing Mateus Fernandes for £85m, Spurs went further by signing Sandro Tonali for £100m, smashing their previous record fee.
Tonali is set to be a game-changer in midfield, bringing his trademark passing range, calmness under pressure, defensive discipline and leadership qualities to the side. His technical class and overall game have drawn comparisons to Luka Modric.
But Tottenham may not be done making headlines. Reports suggest the club are now turning their attention to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, a player carrying a price tag of around £130m.
Rogers has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking players, racking up 14 goals and 16 assists last season. The England international is also wanted by Arsenal, but Spurs appear determined to go toe-to-toe with Europe’s top clubs to land him.
Tonali’s arrival already represents a major coup, but bringing in Rogers would hand Tottenham the kind of attacking star quality they’ve lacked since Harry Kane and Son Heung-min left the club.
With this level of ambition in the transfer market, Tottenham are signalling they’re not just aiming to compete — they want to challenge for the very top of English football.
