Tottenham’s Luka Vušković Praised as Hero After Life-Saving Intervention in Bundesliga
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Luka Vušković has been widely praised after a quick-thinking act that may have saved a life during Hamburg’s Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on December 20.
The 18-year-old defender reacted instantly when Frankfurt’s Rasmus Kristensen collapsed following a collision with Hamburg’s Miro Muheim. Seeing Kristensen lying motionless, Vušković rushed over to make sure he didn’t swallow his tongue — a move experts described as potentially life-saving.
His actions earned him the Bundesliga’s Fair Play Moment of the Month award, with talkSPORT’s Andy Brassell among those highlighting the importance of his response.
Vušković, who joined Spurs from Hajduk Split in 2023 before remaining in Croatia for two more seasons, is currently on loan at Hamburg to gain senior experience. Under Merlin Polzin, he has quickly established himself as a regular, completing 13 straight full matches.
Speaking about the incident, Vušković said: “I’d never done anything like that before, but when I saw him lying there, my only thought was to help immediately.”
Beyond the heroic moment, the 2007-born centre-back is continuing to enhance his reputation on the pitch.
While Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero remain Tottenham’s first-choice pairing, Vušković’s strong aerial presence, defensive numbers and ability to play forward passes underline his growing case for a future role in Spurs’ first team.
Tottenham had already been tracking his progress during a previous loan spell at KVC Westerlo in Belgium, and after being impressed, decided to send him out on loan again for the 2025/26 season. If his development continues on this trajectory, Vušković could soon emerge as a long-term option at the heart of Spurs’ defence.
