Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has insisted the club are staying “very alert” during the January transfer window.
The need to add attacking reinforcements may have increased after Sunday’s 1-1 home draw with Sunderland, in which Mohammed Kudus was forced off injured early in the first half. His setback came just two days after Brennan Johnson completed a £35m move to Crystal Palace.
Asked whether Kudus’ injury placed greater emphasis on January business, Frank said Spurs are actively scanning the market and keen to explore ways to strengthen both the squad and the team.
However, he stressed that January is a difficult period to recruit, with any short-term fix also needing to make sense in the long run.
On the timing of Johnson’s departure, the Dane said he fully backs the decision, explaining that such calls are often made with the bigger picture in mind. He admitted timing can sometimes appear right and at other times less so, but added that decisions often prove clearer over time.
Frank also noted that Spurs took advantage of a rare opportunity to sell a player, pointing out that such windows can be small and need to be acted upon when they arise.
