Brennan Johnson has bid farewell to Tottenham with a brief five-word message after sealing his January switch to Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old completed a £35 million move to Selhurst Park on Friday, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Eagles.
Johnson, formerly of Nottingham Forest, was Spurs’ leading scorer last season and netted the decisive goal in the Europa League final against Manchester United, ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought. However, following the arrival of Mohammed Kudus and the appointment of Thomas Frank after Ange Postecoglou’s departure, he found himself used mainly as a squad player.
After finalising his transfer, Johnson shared an emotional highlights video from his time at Tottenham on Instagram, accompanied by the message: “Been a ride. Thank you @spursofficial.” Several former teammates, including Destiny Udogie, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, responded in the comments.
Johnson is expected to make his Crystal Palace debut on Sunday away to Newcastle at St James’ Park. Speaking after the move, he said he was “really excited and really happy,” adding that Palace are a club he has long admired and that he is eager to be part of their journey.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner welcomed the signing, praising the club for acting swiftly early in the window. He said Johnson’s pace and eye for goal would add valuable attacking options, especially with a busy run of fixtures ahead.
