Dejan Kulusevski has reassured supporters that he is confident of returning to action in time for this summer’s World Cup.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder also shared that he remains upbeat despite spending close to a year recovering from injury.
The Sweden international underwent surgery after damaging his left knee last May. Although he had initially targeted a return in September, his recovery was delayed by a couple of setbacks.
Kulusevski was recently spotted limping during a trip to Spain, where he joined up with his national teammates ahead of Thursday’s World Cup play-off semi-final win over Ukraine national football team. The 25-year-old later clarified that the limp was due to a minor follow-up procedure to clean out his knee, while also assuring fans on social media that he was “feeling great.”
Speaking before Sweden’s 3–1 victory over Ukraine in Valencia, the Tottenham star explained that he is nearing a return after enduring a difficult ten months of rehabilitation. He emphasized that the additional procedure was a positive step because it helped doctors identify and resolve the underlying issue, adding that his focus is now on gradually building back to full fitness.
Kulusevski expressed optimism about Sweden’s upcoming matches and the possibility of competing in the World Cup in just a few months, saying he can now “see the light” at the end of his recovery.
When asked directly about his chances of being ready for the tournament, he responded with full confidence, stating that the World Cup remains his biggest motivation. He acknowledged the challenges he has faced in regaining full fitness but insisted the journey is not over and that he feels encouraged by his current progress.
He also reassured fans about his overall condition, stressing that he is in a strong mental and physical place and determined to return to the pitch better than before. Kulusevski added that rather than simply being the same player, he expects to come back stronger, smarter, and more valuable to his teammates.
Looking ahead to the summer tournament in North America, he concluded by expressing firm belief that Sweden will secure the necessary results and that he will be fit enough to feature in what he hopes will be his first World Cup appearance — the perfect ending to a challenging chapter in his career.
