A journalist has suggested that Xabi Alonso would likely be open to becoming Liverpool F.C. manager if given the chance.
The Spaniard was once a leading candidate to succeed Jürgen Klopp before Arne Slot was appointed, but with pressure now mounting on the current boss, links to Alonso have resurfaced. Despite his agent recently dismissing speculation, reports claim he would be keen on a return to Anfield.
Speaking on a podcast, Adam Crafton said Alonso would “probably” take the job if offered, while Simon Hughes noted that although there’s still belief in Slot, poor results—especially a potential Champions League exit—could damage trust in him.
Former defender Jamie Carragher also warned that Slot may struggle to win fans back after recent performances.
Liverpool’s hierarchy may wait until the end of the season before making a decision, but a run of bad results could force earlier action. Alonso, currently without a club after leaving Real Madrid, remains a strong candidate thanks to his success at Bayer Leverkusen and his strong connection with the club.
