“Here we go” – Liverpool seal verbal deal for January signing, confirms Romano

Liverpool’s behind-the-scenes recruitment plans continue to take shape, with another deal now effectively wrapped up according to one of football’s most trusted transfer sources.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement to sign left-sided centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye, punctuating the update with his familiar “here we go” on X as the move edged closer to completion.

The 18-year-old Senegal youth international currently plays for Amitié FC and caught the eye at the recent Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. His arrival is seen as part of a broader defensive rebuild taking place at Kirkby.

A left-footed centre-back, Ndiaye fits a profile Liverpool have actively pursued in recent transfer windows to bolster depth behind the senior squad. Known for his strength, aerial ability and calmness on the ball, he has already earned three caps for Senegal’s Under-18 side despite his young age.

Internally, the defender is viewed as one for the future rather than an immediate first-team option, following a development pathway similar to other young defenders Liverpool have invested in. That assessment was reinforced by Paul Gorst, who also reported that the Reds were close to finalising a deal as part of plans to strengthen defensive depth at academy level.

With Giovanni Leoni currently sidelined and the senior defensive unit stretched at times, reinforcing the development pipeline has become a priority.

Speaking this week, head coach Arne Slot underlined the club’s long-term recruitment approach, expressing satisfaction with the squad and the alignment between himself, sporting director Richard Hughes and the owners.

“I’m really happy with the squad we are having,” Slot said ahead of the Arsenal game, adding that Liverpool are in “a really good place” not just for the short term, but also for the medium and long term.

While Ndiaye’s arrival is unlikely to have an immediate impact on matchdays, it highlights Liverpool’s continued focus on planning ahead and investing early, with the young defender now poised to take the next step in his development on Merseyside.
