Tottenham supporters have expressed sympathy for Ryan Mason following his dismissal as West Brom manager, with some even calling on Spurs to sack Thomas Frank and bring Mason back as interim head coach.
Frank is currently facing mounting pressure in North London after a difficult start to life at Tottenham, having arrived from Brentford in the summer. Spurs have collected just 27 points from 20 Premier League matches and sit 13th in the table, managing only one win in their last five games.
Mason endured a similarly challenging spell at West Brom, where results failed to improve after a poor opening to the season. The Baggies have lost four of their last five matches and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday night, extending their away losing streak to ten games. Sitting 18th in the Championship, West Brom made the decision to sack Mason just seven months after appointing him following his move from Tottenham.
A former Spurs midfielder, Mason made 70 appearances for the club and joined their academy coaching staff in 2018. He was twice appointed Tottenham’s interim manager — first in 2021 after José Mourinho’s departure, and again in 2023 following the exits of Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini. Mason later served as an assistant under Ange Postecoglou before taking the West Brom job in June 2025.
His inability to push Albion into promotion contention ultimately led to his dismissal, which the club confirmed on Tuesday morning. Former Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick is now the early frontrunner to succeed him.
News of Mason’s sacking prompted mixed reactions from Tottenham fans online, with some urging the club to reinstall him as interim boss in place of the struggling Frank. One supporter wrote: “I’d take him right now. I just want to feel something. Is that wrong? Maybe — but football fandom is about feelings.”
