Igor Tudor is set to give a long-overlooked Tottenham player, previously benched by Thomas Frank, a chance to shine.

New interim Tottenham manager Igor Tudor faces a daunting debut this weekend: the North London Derby. Spurs host rivals Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in one of the Premier League’s most high-stakes fixtures. The match carries extra weight as Tudor takes charge for the first time while Tottenham fights to escape relegation. Arsenal, meanwhile, sit atop the table chasing their first league title in 22 years, and their recent slip from a two-goal lead against Wolves adds to the drama.

Tudor has already signaled his intentions. Fans hope to see Spurs not only climb away from danger but also challenge Arsenal’s title ambitions. There is also a sense of relief after Thomas Frank’s tenure, which had increasingly been met with boos from supporters.

In his first media interview, the Croatian emphasized the need for bravery and attacking intent, making it clear he does not plan to set up merely to hold a draw.

Tactically, Tottenham is likely to adopt a more attacking approach under Tudor, who favors a 3-4-2-1 formation with two No.10s behind a central striker. This setup could benefit several offensive players.

Dominic Solanke is expected to lead the attack, with Xavi Simons in a supporting role thanks to his recent form. The second attacking spot is less certain. Options include Randal Kolo Muani, whom Tudor previously managed at Juventus, although he may be more effective centrally, or Mathys Tel, who struggled for consistent playing time under Frank despite his energy and direct style.

Earlier this season, former interim manager Tim Sherwood openly criticized Tel after the West Ham defeat, highlighting his poor performance when substituted for Solanke. Under Tudor, however, the France Under-21 international could thrive in a role alongside Simons, with freedom to move between central and wide areas.

With his pace and movement, Tel could exploit space behind Arsenal’s defense and provide support to the striker, finally receiving the platform he needs to make an impact in the Premier League.
