Instant Premier League return predicted for Enzo Maresca at Chelsea rivals

Enzo Maresca spent 18 months at Chelsea, lifting both the Club World Cup and the Conference League last season. However, a breakdown in relations with the club led to his departure on Thursday.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has praised Maresca’s success at Chelsea and urged Spurs to consider appointing the Italian. Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, O’Hara said: “Yes, I’d take him. If Enzo Maresca was available, I’d go and get him straight away. I think he’s a very good manager.”

He added: “He’s won the Club World Cup and the Conference League. I’ve watched Chelsea closely — they thrashed Barcelona and Arsenal. They’re a strong side, and I think Chelsea made a mistake letting him go.”

Comparing Maresca to current Spurs boss Thomas Frank, O’Hara said: “Frank is alright and he’s a good manager, but I’m not sure he’s a great one. I believe Enzo Maresca is going to be a great manager.”

Frank took charge of Tottenham in the summer on a three-year deal after replacing Ange Postecoglou. Spurs currently sit 12th in the Premier League following a goalless draw with Brentford on New Year’s Day, leaving them four points off the top four with just one win in their last four league games. Despite this, his position is not under immediate threat, with the club willing to give him time to implement his ideas.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are still searching for a new manager after Maresca’s exit. Under-21s coach Calum McFarlane is expected to take charge for Sunday’s trip to Manchester City.

Liam Rosenior is understood to be Chelsea’s preferred replacement. The Strasbourg head coach, who works under BlueCo ownership, impressed last season by guiding the French side to a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 and securing European qualification.
