Jeremie Frimpong’s Early Exit Explained as Arne Slot Faces Mounting Injury Crisis

Jeremie Frimpong’s night ended almost as soon as it began after he was forced off inside the opening four minutes with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

The Dutch defender pulled up early during Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Qarabag at Anfield while tracking back to stop a counter-attack. He was unable to continue and was replaced by Wataru Endo, further stretching Arne Slot’s already thin defensive options.

Initially, Frimpong was seen clutching his groin as he made his way to the touchline, with referee Ivan Kružliak quickly signalling for medical staff to enter the pitch. However, subsequent reports suggested the issue may be hamstring-related, according to The Athletic’s James Pearce.

Frimpong’s injury struggles at Liverpool have been a concern. Since arriving at Anfield, the 25-year-old has missed 18 matches for club and country, with availability proving to be a recurring issue. While this is his first Premier League season following his summer move from Bayer Leverkusen, it underlines the physical demands of English football and the adjustment period required.

Liverpool’s problems at right-back are mounting. Conor Bradley has already been ruled out for the rest of the 2025/26 campaign after suffering a serious knee injury against Arsenal. Calvin Ramsay is technically fit but remains ineligible for the Champions League, leaving Joe Gomez as a possible short-term option if Frimpong’s absence is not prolonged.

The situation leaves Liverpool’s defence looking increasingly fragile. With limited senior options available across the backline and several players either injured or unavailable for European competition, Arne Slot faces a growing headache as the season progresses.
