Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero gave a frank and honest assessment after the club’s Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest. Goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Taiwo Awoniyi secured a 3–0 victory, leaving Romero to openly acknowledge the team’s struggles against their relegation rivals.
Speaking after the match, Romero admitted the season has been extremely difficult, especially with another home defeat. He thanked the fans for their continued support and stressed that the team must treat their remaining seven matches like finals. He accepted personal responsibility for the poor campaign and emphasized the need for unity during this challenging period.
Spurs had entered the match with confidence following a draw against Liverpool F.C. and a strong performance against Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, despite being eliminated 7–5 on aggregate. However, Romero noted that while the team performed well in the first half against Forest, they lost confidence after conceding another avoidable goal in the second half.
The defeat pushed Forest above Tottenham in the league standings, increasing pressure on manager Igor Tudor, who has now recorded five losses in seven matches. Tudor was absent from post-match duties due to a family bereavement, so assistant coach Bruno Saltor addressed the media instead.
Saltor explained that Tottenham were the better side for much of the first half but were punished for small mistakes and failed to take their chances. He insisted the players are fully committed and working hard, but admitted their current performances are not good enough. Despite the poor run—just one win in their last 16 league matches—he remains confident the team can improve once players return from international duty and refocus on the remaining fixtures.
