Liverpool identify Andy Robertson successor as Tottenham move closer to deal

Liverpool may already have a succession plan in place for Andy Robertson amid strong links to a surprise switch to Tottenham.

Spurs are pushing ahead with a move for the experienced left-back, and Robertson is understood to be open to a new challenge in North London. With his exit a real possibility, Liverpool are exploring an internal solution to soften the blow.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Reds are in discussions over bringing Kostas Tsimikas back from his loan spell at AS Roma.

Liverpool are preparing to approach the Italian club to terminate the deal early, despite there being no formal recall clause in the agreement. Any return would therefore depend on Roma’s cooperation.

Tsimikas’ own stance could be key, with sources close to the player indicating he is eager to return to Anfield and compete for the starting left-back role if Robertson departs.

Jacobs wrote on X: “Exclusive: Liverpool set to approach Roma to recall Kostas Tsimikas if Andy Robertson moves to Spurs. Understand Robertson has told Liverpool he is keen on a move to Tottenham. No formal recall clause in Tsimikas’ loan, but sources close to player have made it clear he wants to return to Liverpool.

Should the transfer go through, it would signal the closing chapter of Robertson’s hugely successful Liverpool career. Since arriving from Hull City, the Scotland international has been a cornerstone of the club’s golden era, playing a vital role in Champions League and Premier League glory under Jurgen Klopp.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season and Milos Kerkez’s arrival limiting his minutes, Liverpool may prefer to sell now rather than risk losing him for nothing. For Robertson, the reduced role has also fuelled his interest in a move.

While the sight of Robertson in a Spurs shirt would be difficult for Liverpool fans to accept, the club’s readiness to recall Tsimikas suggests a focus on stability and experience instead of rushing into the transfer market for an external replacement.
