Mauricio Pochettino would reportedly be willing to return to Tottenham Hotspur even if the club were relegated to the Championship.
According to an update from GiveMeSport senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs on X, Mauricio Pochettino is open to managing Tottenham Hotspur again in the future. The current United States men’s national soccer team head coach would not be discouraged from returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium even if Spurs were playing in the Championship next season.
However, finances could be a major obstacle, as Tottenham might struggle to meet the 54-year-old’s salary demands in the second tier, with Jacobs suggesting his wages would be unlikely to drop significantly.
Igor Tudor’s chances of staying
Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange recently suggested that interim head coach Igor Tudor could still earn the role on a permanent basis.
But after losing his first two matches in charge, the Croatian has yet to make a convincing case to remain beyond the end of the season. So far, he has not built a strong connection with supporters, many of whom have been hoping for Pochettino’s return ever since his departure in November 2019.
According to Jacobs, though, Tudor has virtually no chance of securing the job permanently, regardless of what happens in the coming weeks.
Other candidates linked with the job
Despite Tottenham’s difficult campaign in the Premier League, the managerial position is still expected to attract high-profile interest.
Jacobs reports that Roberto De Zerbi is another potential candidate. The former Brighton & Hove Albion and Olympique de Marseille boss is believed to feel he has “unfinished business” in the Premier League. However, he may wait beyond this summer before deciding on his next move.
Meanwhile, Tottenham legend Robbie Keane has also been mentioned as a name to watch. Keane is currently enjoying success with Ferencvárosi TC, having guided the side to the league title last season.
