Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly planning a summer move for Dominic Solanke from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Magpies are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad, with a new attacking signing high on their list of priorities. According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle have identified Solanke as a key target.
Tottenham paid around £65 million to sign the striker, but he has struggled to deliver goals consistently since arriving in North London.
Newcastle eye reunion with Solanke
Solanke has now emerged as a possible summer target for Newcastle, who are eager to add more firepower to their attack amid uncertainty surrounding William Osula’s future. The club are believed to want a reliable goal scorer and are keen on the idea of reuniting Solanke with Howe, who previously worked with him.
Howe knows the 28-year-old well and would welcome the chance to include him in an attacking group that could feature Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa. However, any potential deal could hinge on Tottenham’s status in the Premier League next season.
Spurs may struggle to keep him if relegated
Despite dealing with injuries this season, Solanke is still viewed as an important part of Tottenham’s plans, and the club would ideally like to keep him even if they were relegated.
However, dropping out of the Premier League could make it extremely difficult for Spurs to hold on to the former AFC Bournemouth forward.
Since returning from an ankle injury, Solanke has played 11 matches and scored five goals for a side that has struggled for form. Because of his importance to the team, Tottenham would prefer to keep him.
But if the club does suffer relegation, Newcastle are expected to push hard to sign him—potentially at a reduced fee. Although his contract runs until 2030, Tottenham’s leverage would be limited if they are playing in the EFL Championship next season.
