Next Liverpool Manager: Jurgen Klopp’s Odds Cut Amid Fresh Arne Slot Sacking Speculation

Jurgen Klopp’s chances of becoming the next manager of Liverpool FC have reportedly increased as pressure continues to mount on current boss Arne Slot.

The Reds suffered a surprising 2–1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday, a result that dealt a significant blow to their hopes of securing UEFA Champions League qualification.

Because of that setback, more questions are being raised about Slot’s future, especially with Liverpool struggling to maintain consistent form in the Premier League this season. Reports suggest the possibility of Slot being dismissed before the campaign ends has not been ruled out, and bookmakers now believe Klopp could make a dramatic return to Anfield.

Klopp among favourites for Liverpool return

Speculation about a return for Jürgen Klopp has continued throughout the season as Liverpool’s performances have declined.

The 58-year-old has not taken another managerial role since leaving the club in 2024. However, bookmakers now list him as joint-second favourite to replace Slot if the club decides to make a change. According to Oddschecker on March 4, Klopp’s odds have shortened to 8/1.

Despite the growing speculation, it remains unclear whether Liverpool’s owners would pursue bringing Klopp back, especially with several other high-profile managers linked to the role.

Other managers linked with the job

Reports from Football Insider claim Slot could lose his job if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League. With that scenario looking increasingly possible, bookmakers have installed Xabi Alonso as the leading candidate to take over at Anfield. The former Liverpool midfielder is currently priced at 3/1, which would mark a remarkable return to his old club after leaving Real Madrid earlier this season.

Behind him is Luis Enrique at 8/1. The current Paris Saint‑Germain manager has recently been linked with a move away from the French club amid uncertainty surrounding his contract.

Club legend Steven Gerrard also remains in the conversation at 14/1. The former Aston Villa and Rangers FC boss has been without a managerial role since leaving Al‑Ettifaq in January 2025.

Another outside candidate is Roberto De Zerbi, also listed at 14/1. The ex-Brighton & Hove Albion manager departed Olympique de Marseille earlier this season after failing to guide the club into the Champions League knockout stages and suffering a heavy defeat to PSG shortly afterwards.
