Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss Saturday’s crucial FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City due to injury.
The Brazilian goalkeeper, who pulled out of international duty last week, is still recovering from a muscle problem and remains unavailable for selection.
Speaking to club media on Wednesday, Slot shared an update on his squad, expressing concern over several injury issues while preparing for the demanding trip to the Etihad Stadium.
Slot Provides Latest on Alisson and Frimpong
Although Alisson’s absence represents a significant setback, there was cautious optimism regarding right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
The Dutch defender was substituted just 12 minutes into the Netherlands’ 1–1 draw with Ecuador on Tuesday, raising concerns about another potential injury spell.
Addressing the situation, Slot explained that the decision to withdraw Frimpong was merely precautionary, based on advice from the Netherlands medical team.
“Jeremie — the national team doctor told us it was only precautionary that they took him off,” Slot said.
“Alisson will be out for a bit longer.”
Frimpong has endured a challenging debut season at Anfield, already dealing with four separate muscle injuries. Supporters are now anxiously awaiting scan results, especially after the defender has missed 25 matches for both club and country this season.
Mixed Injury News Ahead of Man City Clash
Despite the setbacks involving Alisson and Frimpong, Slot delivered some encouraging updates. Mohamed Salah, who missed the recent defeat to Brighton before the international break, is expected to be fit for the showdown against Manchester City. Federico Chiesa is also likely to be available.
In another boost, Liverpool have confirmed that Alexander Isak has returned to full training following the serious injury he sustained earlier in the season against Tottenham.
With Alisson sidelined, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to step in as the starting goalkeeper, while Dominik Szoboszlai could once again be deployed at right-back if needed.
