Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro was among the first players to react after Thomas Frank was dismissed on Wednesday morning. Frank, who joined Spurs from Brentford F.C. last summer, departs following a challenging eight months in North London. A 2-1 home loss to Newcastle United F.C. — which left the club 16th in the Premier League and only five points clear of the relegation zone — proved to be the decisive blow.
Frank’s tenure was significantly hampered by injuries, with 11 senior players sidelined for the Newcastle match, while Wilson Odobert was forced off in the first half with a knock. Although the Danish coach acknowledged that injuries had disrupted the team’s momentum, he insisted he had not anticipated being sacked. Nevertheless, the club later confirmed his exit in an official statement.
Spurs stated that despite their initial plan to give Frank time and strong support after appointing him in June 2025, a run of disappointing performances and results persuaded the board that a change in management was necessary at this point in the campaign. The club expressed gratitude for his commitment and professionalism and extended their best wishes for his future.
It remains unclear whether Tottenham will appoint a permanent replacement swiftly or opt for an interim solution. Their next fixture is the North London derby against Arsenal F.C. on February 22.
Porro, who has made 34 appearances this season but missed the past three games due to a hamstring injury, shared a farewell message on Instagram: “Thank you very much and all the best in your career, boss! It was a pleasure.” Earlier in the campaign, Frank had publicly defended Porro after he responded to criticism directed at goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, describing the defender’s reaction as understandable.
