Tottenham defender Pedro Porro was one of the first squad members to respond after Thomas Frank was relieved of his duties on Wednesday morning. Frank, who arrived from Brentford last summer, leaves the club after a difficult eight-month spell in North London. The 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle — a result that dropped Spurs to 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone — ultimately sealed his fate.
Frank’s time in charge was heavily disrupted by injuries, with 11 senior players unavailable for the Newcastle clash and Wilson Odobert picking up a knock in the first half. Although Frank admitted the setbacks had hurt the team’s progress, he maintained he did not expect to be sacked. Despite that, the club confirmed his departure in an official statement.
Spurs explained that while they had intended to give Frank time and backing after appointing him in June 2025, recent performances and results convinced the board that a managerial change was needed at this stage of the season. They thanked him for his dedication and professionalism and wished him well for the future.
It is not yet known whether Tottenham will move quickly to hire a permanent successor or place an interim coach in charge. Their next match is the North London derby against Arsenal on February 22.
Porro, who has featured 34 times this campaign but has missed the last three matches with a hamstring issue, posted a farewell message on Instagram: “Thank you very much and all the best in your career, boss! It was a pleasure.” Earlier in the season, Frank had publicly backed Porro after he reacted to criticism aimed at goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, calling the defender’s response understandable.
