How Tottenham might line up against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur travel to Brentford on New Year’s Day aiming to build momentum in the Premier League and secure back-to-back league victories.
Spurs halted a tough spell on Sunday with a narrow but crucial 1–0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
While the performance was far from flawless, the result was exactly what was needed and eased the pressure on Thomas Frank. Youngster Archie Gray proved decisive, netting his first senior goal to earn all three points and move Tottenham up to 11th place.
Tottenham will also take confidence from their recent record against Brentford, having claimed a comfortable 2–0 home victory earlier in December. That result provides added incentive for Frank as he prepares to take on his former side once again. However, the challenge will be a stern one, with Brentford in solid form — unbeaten in their last three games and particularly tough to beat at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Here’s how Spurs are expected to set up.
Goalkeeper
Guglielmo Vicario
Vicario recorded a rare clean sheet against Palace, producing two important first-half saves. Shielded well by his back line, the Italian secured his sixth Premier League shutout of the season and remains Tottenham’s undisputed No.1.
Defence
Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Djed Spence
Romero returns from a one-game suspension and partners Van de Ven in central defence. Their understanding will be crucial in containing Brentford’s attacking threat, including the in-form Igor Thiago.
Porro is expected to start at right-back and faces a demanding test against the lively Kevin Schade. On the opposite flank, Spence keeps his place after a run of promising displays.
Midfield
Archie Gray, Rodrigo Bentancur, Randal Kolo Muani
Fresh from scoring the winner at Selhurst Park, Gray is set to line up alongside Bentancur, with the duo tasked with dictating play and maintaining control in midfield.
Kolo Muani is likely to operate in a more advanced central role, bringing energy, forward runs and a crucial connection between midfield and attack.
Attack
Wilson Odobert, Richarlison, Mohammed Kudus
Richarlison continues to lead the line after a strong performance against Palace. Although two of his goals were ruled out for offside, he provided the assist for Gray’s winner and remains key to Spurs’ attacking setup.
Kudus is expected to start on the right, offering pace and flair, while Odobert features on the left after impressing with his direct style and attacking intent in his last appearance.
