Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven became the target of playful trolling on Monday while attending the World Darts Championship.
The 24-year-old took advantage of a break in the Premier League’s hectic festive schedule to visit Alexandra Palace, where his appearance didn’t go unnoticed. As cameras picked him out in the lively crowd, some fans seized the moment to poke fun at the Dutch centre-back.
Chants of “Tottenham get battered” echoed around the arena, reflecting Spurs’ recent struggles in the league. However, not all the attention was negative, with sections of the crowd also chanting van de Ven’s name.
Tottenham currently sit 11th in the Premier League, having recorded seven wins and seven losses from 18 matches. They are seven points adrift of the top four after a run of inconsistent performances, a situation that has piled pressure on head coach Thomas Frank.
Despite the team’s form, van de Ven remains a vital figure for Frank, contributing six goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season. On the night, though, football was far from his mind as he watched Luke Littler make history against Rob Cross.
The 18-year-old prodigy produced a stunning display, defeating the former world champion with an average of 106.82. Littler also struck a landmark 180 — the 915th of the tournament — setting a new record.
That tally surpassed the previous record of 914, which had been set at the 2024 World Darts Championship two years earlier.
