A well-known journalist has provided a significant update on Marc Guehi’s future amid growing interest from Manchester City.
Last summer, Guehi came close to leaving Crystal Palace for Liverpool in a deal believed to be worth around £35 million. He even completed a medical with the Reds, but the transfer fell through after Palace were unable to secure a replacement.
Since then, the England international has continued to be linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, either during the current window or on a free transfer when the 2025/26 season concludes. The 25-year-old is in the final months of his contract and is not expected to agree to an extension.
Following injury setbacks to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias, reports emerged suggesting Manchester City are keen on signing Guehi in January. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed City have made an initial approach, adding that Guehi is on their shortlist. Romano also noted that Liverpool have remained in discussions since August, while Bayern Munich are actively exploring the possibility of signing him on a free.
Now, The Athletic’s Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee has shared a fresh insight into the situation. Speaking on the Let Me Talk podcast, Lee revealed he had been told by a source close to both City and Palace that Guehi would prefer to stay put until the summer, with Liverpool his favoured destination.
Lee added that another reliable source echoed this view, suggesting Guehi’s preference is to see out the season before considering a move, with Liverpool and Arsenal both appealing options — although Lee stressed he had not personally heard Arsenal mentioned before.
He also referenced Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner’s recent press conference, noting the manager’s comments about City and centre-back interest, which appeared to allude to Nathan Aké — a deal Lee believes is highly unlikely given City’s current situation.
