Report: Liverpool launch “urgent” pursuit of new right-back for January window

Liverpool’s January plans have been plunged into uncertainty after Conor Bradley was ruled out for several months with a serious knee injury.
The 22-year-old picked up the problem during Thursday’s goalless draw with Arsenal, leaving Arne Slot facing a major setback at a crucial point in the season.

According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are now in an urgent hunt for a replacement, although one high-profile link has been dismissed. Despite reports in Germany suggesting Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson could be Anfield-bound, Plettenberg clarified on X that Ryerson is not under consideration. He added that Liverpool are assessing several options during the current transfer window.

Bradley’s absence could not come at a worse time, with Liverpool trying to close the gap on the league leaders. Frimpong is now the only natural senior right-back available, while Joe Gomez can deputise but does not offer the attacking threat Slot’s system relies on.

Plettenberg’s comments indicate the club are focused on finding a balanced solution — one that delivers immediate impact without resorting to a short-term panic signing.
Right-backs Liverpool could target in January
Givairo Read (Feyenoord)

A familiar face for Slot, the 19-year-old thrived under him at Feyenoord and continues to impress in the Eredivisie. Energetic, aggressive in the tackle and comfortable overlapping, Read fits the Bradley mould and would adapt quickly to Slot’s demands.

Vanderson (AS Monaco)
For a more physical option, Vanderson stands out. The Brazilian, long monitored by Premier League clubs, pairs his 6ft frame with explosive pace. He would be a costly signing but offers the defensive strength Slot values in the role.

Martim Fernandes (Porto)
The 19-year-old has been heavily scouted by Liverpool in the past and has already been linked with a move. Fernandes could provide solid depth and competition alongside Bradley and Frimpong at right-back.
