Richarlison’s long-term future at Tottenham Hotspur has been under scrutiny for several months as head coach Thomas Frank weighs up his attacking options.
With Dominic Solanke sidelined for much of the season through injury, responsibility in front of goal has largely fallen to players such as Richarlison. The Brazilian has scored six Premier League goals so far this campaign, but he has struggled to deliver in decisive moments, leaving Spurs still short of a reliable, out-and-out number nine.
Speculation over a possible exit has intensified ahead of the January transfer window, and Richarlison’s spell in North London could be nearing its conclusion.
Meanwhile, former Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon has found a new club after leaving Spurs in the summer. The left-back’s five-year association with the club came to an end following multiple loan spells at Atlético Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford, having featured regularly only in his first two seasons.
Reguilon has now secured a permanent move, with Inter Miami confirming his signing. The MLS side announced the deal on Instagram with the caption: “A new chapter begins.” He will now join a star-studded squad that includes Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul.
Richarlison has also been linked with a potential move to Major League Soccer, with reports suggesting Orlando City are monitoring his situation. However, it remains unclear whether the 28-year-old would be prepared to move to the United States at this stage of his career.
Tottenham’s ambitions in the second half of the season may depend on upgrading their attacking options, but securing a more complete centre-forward in January will be challenging. The winter window is rarely straightforward, and there are no guarantees of landing the right replacement.
As a result, Spurs may have little choice but to retain Richarlison until the end of the season before reassessing their striker options in the summer.
